Ma Ke Alo O: Being Present in Community

Ma Ke Alo o means “presence” in Hawaiian, and we are a family of missional communities who believe in the presence of God, presence with one another, and presence in the communities around us.  Despite many adversities throughout the pandemic, we have multiplied into six missional communities around Oahu and are anticipating three additional communities of disciples of Jesus, growing to love and lead the neighborhoods around us! One such missional community, called Kaka`ako Kupuna, loves and leads a pocket of low-income senior residents numbering 500 beautiful individuals. Through the Alma Hunt offering, we were able to swiftly pivot from providing community around a weekly pizza and bingo night to delivering one month’s worth of groceries to these 500 grandmothers and grandfathers every month since the beginning of the pandemic. This generous act of self-giving love has made a way for us to Be Light by starting discipleship cores with our beloved seniors in small, safe pods of 5-6 individuals right in the convenience of their residential homes. Mission turned naturally into discipleship!
